1966-69- Parallel View

Painting in oils on parallelogram canvas.

Painting in oils on wooden panel.

Relief with life-casts in plaster, metal, mirror and silk stocking.

All three pieces are from a series I did during my diploma course at Chelsea College of Art, 1966-69. I had a series of triangular mirrors mounted on flexible fabric. The image of my model was reflected in the mirrors and I could vary the relationship of one part to another. I made a series of painting and multi-media renditions of the reflective juxtapositions. I wanted to get away from the 'fixed frame' so I used the parallelogram instead of the rectangle or square. Also, I wanted to get away from the stereotype of the artist's model by having her wear black stockings.
