1977- Dakini Oracle

1977 Penny as Dakini Oracle reader, with Nepalese crown. The original cards for the 'Secret Dakini Oracle' are spread before her. Photo by Jorge Lewinski. Because I felt the 'Secret Dakini' had really 'come through' to me and written the text through me, I felt no compunction in assuming the Dakini role for the photographs - especially as I had all the 'props'.

1977 Penny in Saraswati mode, with Indian instrument and stuffed peacock. I airbrushed the night sky onto the ceiling and walls of the bedroom of my South Kensington apartment with the constellations of the time of my birth painting in UV so that they shone under black light. I erected a 'tent' in a corner from exotic fabric and this is where the photo was taken.

Penny handing writer Lyall Watson a Dakini card at 'Secrets' opening. 30d. In accordance with my belief that events like opening should be magical experiences, not just social or economic exchanges, I gave on the spot Dakini readings at the Private View - to provide a little 'Private Viewing' for everyone who wished it.

My work and my way of presenting myself went through a transformation after I discovered Tantra and Tantric art. In 1977 I 'came out' with the new work that I had been creating, putting on 2 solo exhibitions at the Patrick Seale and Mirandy Galleries in London.
