1973-Fruit of my Womb

1973 'Fruit of my Womb (Strawberries and Cream)' Ingredients: Fiberglass body cast, wax strawberries, lace and wooden table.

Penny and 'Fruit of my Womb' sculpture, reproduced Knave Magazine 1973. "When infant sexuality becomes adult sexuality, when oral sexuality changes to genital…a lot of people are still trapped in one or the other."

  • 'Pandora's Box (Pregnant with her own myth)'
  • The warm damp forest,
  • Where seeds are planted,
  • Everything grows.
  • Ingredients: Life cast of pregnant woman in fiberglass, hinged and opening
  • on more life casts.

'Mouthpieces' - Ingredients: wav life, casts of mouths and mixed media.

All from my solo exhibit 'Opening', Angela Flowers Gallery, London, 1973.

    • "Whereas the surrealists showed little interest in feminine fantasy, 'Opening' showed us how powerfully a woman is able to transform surrealism." Laura Mulvey, Spare Rib Magazine.
    • "The sculptured objects and images are very vital, I think, partly because as well as being the instigator Penny is also prepared to be the subject. She cannot work dispassionately and doesn't like turning people into objects, so when she needs a model for a life cast or a photograph, it is either herself or someone with whom she has an emotional link or at least a sympathy. In most cases she is the subject and she adorns herself with objects or images which she hopes will make her emotional predicament as obvious as her physical appearance. I believe that her determination will in the end lead her to contribute very significantly to areas of human understanding which have received insufficient attention until now."
    • Evan Duff, Guardian, 1973.
